The small town of Altafulla

The town itself, though small is fascinating and offers at the very least an interesting day out but for those seeking clarity a holiday experience that you will remember. A declared Cultural Asset of National Interest since 1998 Altafulla prides itself on simplicity and beauty. It offers the more informed tourist a tranquil setting with top quality local gastronomy, history and a beautiful beach.

You won’t find bright lights, loud bars or nightclubs here, instead your senses will be assaulted with natural beauty. This town sticks to what it knows best, quality, service and culture. As you amble through the old streets of the walled town your mind and body are treated to a more organic experience. Quaint shops and restaurants are dotted throughout the Medieval town but nothing overshadows the historic atmosphere that gives Altafulla its uniqueness.

The charming Altafulla beach

As you wander down to the Blue Flag beach you will arrive on the charming promenade which leads it way to the Botigues de Mar. Originally 18th century store houses and workshops for tradesmen and fishermen now the buildings have been handsomely restored as summer homes and local businesses.

Back behind the town you will find the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Villa Romana Els Munts, which is rated as one of the best examples of an aristocratic roman hispanic villa. Altafulla Castle, though privately owned, is well worth a walk around as the building with its restored battlements and high walls is impressive to see from the outside.

Just south of the town is the stunning Tamarit Castle sitting slightly out to sea on it promontory. In its past this striking piece of architecture stood as a great fortress against invasion from the south now it is the highly lauded wedding venue.
